I have a server running ESX 4.1, it has an Adaptec 3405 card installed in it and the Adaptec Storage Manager Agent v6.5.0 has been installed to allow me to managed the RAID controller without having to reboot the server and access it physically - the main feature for me however is that the agent allows you to configure email alerts.
The ESX server has an Exchange 2007 server running on it, and a management server running Windows with the Adaptec Storage Manager Client installed, this client connects to the ESX Agent so that can be configured from Windows.
I've set the RAID array up on the server as intended and gone to set the SMTP server and a recipient but the event log for the agent just keeps saying "could not open socket connection to smtp server".
I've set the Exchange server by IP address and configured an SMTP relay in Exchange to allow annonymous email from the entire subnet, I've also tried opening port 25 in both the ESX firewall (tcp,in,out) and in the Exchange server firewall.
Outlook clients have no problem connecting to the Exchange server and sending/receiving.
My question is, does anyone know why an agent on my ESX server would not be able to connect to an Exchange server that it hosts itself? Is there any way to test a connect on port 25 from the ESX host? e.g. some sort of telnet FROM the ESX hosts console?
Any help would be really appreciated!
