Hello all,
after having very poor IO performance on ESX 3.5 update 5 we've just installed ESX 4.1
now when we run hdparm to measure the througput from the esx-console we get a warning
[root@esx-lasttest ~]# hdparm -t --direct /dev/sdd5 /dev/sdd: Timing O_DIRECT disk reads: 3080 MB in 3.01 seconds = 1021.68 MB/sec HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(null) (wait for flush complete) failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
It doesn't matter which drive we specify. Leaving out the direct flag also makes no difference.
What's causing this and how do we stop it from happening?
Cheers
Jack...
