When creating a custom VM, there are several choices for SCSI controller. We're primarily Windows VMs so, I'd liked to know which of these makes the most sense. I'll be choosing for my templates so, I want to make sure it's not something I'll regret later.
(1) Until I understand completely, I'll stick with the default "LSI Logic Parallel" but, anyone have any experience or additional information about compatibility and performance that could assist with this choice?
(2) Will the answer(s) to (1) change hold true with all (current) versions of the Windows OS?
From vCenter help:
Select the I/O adapter type that is appropriate for your virtual disk.
The IDE adapter is always ATAPI. The choice of SCSI controller does not affect whether your virtual disk is an IDE or SCSI disk. Older guest operating systems default to the BusLogic adapter. LSI Logic adapters provide improved improved performance, work better with non-disk SCSI devices, and are included with more recent guest operating systems. The LSI Logic SAS adapter is available only for virtual machines with hardware version 7 or later. The LSI Logic Parallel adapter and the LSI Logic SAS adapter offer equivalent performance. Some guest operating system vendors are phasing our support for parallel SCSI in favor of SAS, so if your virtual machine and guest operating system support SAS, choose LSI SAS to maintain future compatibility.
