Restore Windows Server 2008 in vsphere

Dear all,

I read a document state that we can backup Windows Server 2008 and restore to another server. I test it on VMware workstation is fine but when I do the same in vsphere esxi 4.1 then it does not recognize the backup file in another disk of VM.

My question is do we need to install vmware tool driver before restore windows. If it is required, how do we do it.
