Hi. I know that SQL is licesned either by physical socket or Server/CAL. I have a customer who has been running all VMware related DB's within SQL Express. They would now like to create two SQL server vm's in an active passive cluster.
They will purchase SQL Standard, but which licesning method should they choose (socket or server/cal)? They have 2 ESX servers in a cluster and both servers have 2 sockets.
The per socket licensing seems really expensive, especially for what they're looking to do (i.e. create a vCenter DB, Update Manager DB, View Composer DB, SRM database). If they choose to go Server/CAL how do they know how many CALs to purchase? No users are actually making connections to these databases - it's the apps like vCenter, UM, Composer that are making connections.
Lastly, the View environment is for ~100 users (~50 concurrent).
Thanks
Ian
