Hi guys! I have problem with recovering esx 4.1 upd 3 server. To my shame i deleted /lib64/libc-2.5.so -->/lib64/libc.so.6 link and rebooted a server. So now esx makes a core dump and won't start (Kernel panic not syncing kill init). I thought it was piece of cake to boot from linux livecd, mount root partition of esx and recreate the link but it was not that easy. In rescue mode of livecd (redhat 5) i can only mount /boot partition of esx. Command fdisk -l shows only one device (/dev/sda1) with linux fs and other sdaX devices with extended and uknown fs types and mount returns error on those devices. Mounting /dev/sda1 gives me /boot partition of esx. On another esx 4.1 host with identical setup df command shows that /boot partition resides on device /dev/sdd1 while other partitions like root and /var/log reside on devices /dev/sdeX. After investigating further i found that /dev/sdd is a local raid protected drive whereas /dev/sde is not matched with any SAN or locally connected drives. Tomorrow i will try to boot from esx installation media and see if there is something simillar to rescue mode and try and do something from there. I have no idea what to do if it won't help. Hoping to hear a good advise from you guys!
