Windows Server machines getting stuck in reboot loop after adding extra disk

Hi, I'm having a problem with some VM's in an ESXi4 environment(the free version), the problem is that some VMs have got into a state where they permantently reboot if you power them on. They will boot up usually just past windows splash screens nearly to the point where you could log-in. The VM's have been using Server 2008 x86 and Server 2003 x86, and the problem only seems to have happened after I added an extra disk. I wanted some extra space to copy some files so I added another disk.

Strangely I was able to use the machines for some time after adding the new disk, initialized the new disk and did a bit of testing, but when I eventually decide to reboot the machine it then becomes stuck in a reboot loop. And once this has happened the only thing I can do is to revert to a previous snapshot before the disk was added to get out of the boot loop.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should try doing to resolve this problem? I was wondering if there is any way to log what has happened which may help identify the issue, note that I don't have vCenter to do any advanced management options.

So far I have tried adding more memory to the VM because at one point I noticed it had maxed out. I also tried booting into safe-mode in windows but it still automatically rebooted while that was booting. Other than that I restarted the ESXi server. None of these things resolved the problem.

Sorry if I have not provided clear information, I only have basic understanding of VMware. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.
