Invalid Disk Type 7 Error on ESX

Hi Folks,

I am using Symantec Backup Exec 2010 to backup my virtual machine. I backed up the TestNode VM and removed from inventory. After some time I needed that machine so I did the redirected restore of the VM on NTFS folder and I uploded that VM ( i.e. .vmx and .vmdk) file to datastore.

When I start the VM I get below error.

Failed to open disk scsio:0: Unsupported and/or invlaid disk type 7. Did you forget to import the disk first? unable to create virtual SCSI devide for scsi0:0, '/vmfs/volumes/<random number>/TestNode/TestNode.vmdk Module DevicePowerOn. power on failed.

I am using ESX4.0. The did the Right Clicl on VM->edit setting ->Hard Disk1. I see the Type as SPARSE.

As per the http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1022242 page ESX supports this disk format. Am I missing somthing ?

Rocky
