Hi,
In order to monitor some xSeries (3550/7978) servers with ESX 4.0 (/!\ not ESXi 4.0 /!\), I enabled snmp trapping on hosts.
Traps from ESX works.
Next step is to "forward" hardware traps, coming from a "Remote Supervisor Adapter II" card on the server. I downloaded the daemon to do it from IBM repository (IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II Daemon v1.53 for Linux - IBM System x) and try to install in on ESX hosts (it's a RPM file).
The problem is the need of the RPM binary to do so. And RPM has been removed from ESX byVMWare because: "ESX 4.0 Service Console is Not a Development Environment" (as I read in the "Changes to the ESX Service Console for ESX 4.0" technical paper, page 5).
My question is quite simple: is there other way to install the RSA Daemon on the ESX ? Or do you have a solution to install/enable rpm on the hosts ?
Thanks per advance
Christophe
