How can I associate hardware iSCSI initiators with vmknic - vSphere 4 update 1

Hi There,

I'm having big problems trying to set up iSCSI on a vSphere (update 1) host using Broadcom NetXtreme 2 BCM 5709 hardware iSCSI initiators. I have created a vswitch and associated this with a vm kernel port group, I have then added 2 of the Broadcom iSCSI NICs into the port group. Unfortunately I am unable to configure the initiators - if I select the properties of the hardware iSCSI NICs in the storage adapters screen I am unable to add an iSCSI target IP address in either the dynamic or static discovery options. All options (add, remove and settings) are disabled, and the following message is displayed: "The host bus adapter is not associated with a vmknic. To configure targets the adapter should be associated with a vmknic. Refer to the VMware documentation to associate the adapter with a vmknic". I have rebooted the host a couple of times but this has not helped.

When using the software initiator I would just place the NIC in the vmkernel port group and then use esxcli swiscsi to associate with the software VMHBA but I am stuck with this!

There is virtually nothing online with regard to this message and no I can find no instructions on how to do this on the VMware website. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Jeff
